About This Service
Naíonra Iognáid, is in Scoil Iognáid a primary school, in the west of Galway city. The preschool service operates from a classroom in the school Seomra Gwen and the second playroom Seomra Creina is operated from a prefabricated unit with two rooms and sanitary facilities to the rear of the premises. The early years’ service currently offers an Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) programme, a sessional care programme from 09.00 to 12.00 and a part-time care programme from 09.00 to 13.30, Monday to Friday, for 38 weeks of the year. A full day care full day service is provided from 09.00 to 16.30. The service caters for children aged 3 to 6 years of age. The preschool has quiet rest areas available in each playroom and 10 stackable beds for sleep provision. The children have access to a designated outdoor play area on the school grounds to the side of the premises, the use of an all-weather sheltered area during inclement weather, the use of a green grass area and the school gymnasium if necessary. The pre-school provides a child centred play-based pre-school curriculum, with a focus on Montessori. The programme oof care is offered through the medium of Irish.
